Why setting up grey tones correctly matters in DTF printing

In DTF printing, it is important to set up grey tones correctly to achieve the best print result. Unlike the RGB colour space, which uses additive colour mixing, DTF printing is based on the subtractive colour system. This means that colours are created by absorbing light rather than adding light.

Using K black for grey tones

To set up grey tones correctly for DTF printing, only black ink particles (K black) should be used. Cyan, magenta and yellow cannot be used to create grey tones, as mixing them can cause an unwanted colour cast and discolouration in the result.

The problem with building grey tones from cyan, magenta and yellow

If grey tones are set up with cyan, yellow and magenta, this can lead to a blue or green cast in the grey. This is because DTF printing is based on the subtractive colour system, and each of the colours cyan, yellow and magenta has a certain colour intensity. When these colours are mixed to create grey tones, the resulting colour may not always have the desired grey gradation and may show an unwanted colour cast.

That is why it is important to use only black (K) to create grey tones in DTF printing. This ensures that the grey gradations are precise and free of colour casts.
